Help secure the future of Jodrell Bank

Jodrell Bank has inspired discovery, advanced our understanding of the Universe and captured the imagination of people across the world. Today, its future as an actively used radio astronomy facility is at risk.

Following the decision by UK Research and Innovation to withdraw funding for e-MERLIN when the current agreement ends in March 2028, scientific observations at Jodrell Bank are expected to cease unless alternative funding can be secured.

The University of Manchester is working urgently with partners, government, industry, charities, philanthropists and supporters to protect this remarkable place. Your support can help ensure Jodrell Bank continues to play a vital role in science, education and discovery for generations to come.

Why your gift matters

Home to the Grade I-listed Lovell Telescope and the headquarters of the e-MERLIN network, Jodrell Bank is one of the UK’s most recognisable symbols of scientific ambition. From tracking Sputnik to supporting space missions and enabling world-leading radio astronomy, it has helped shape how we understand our place in the Universe.

It is also a place that inspires people of all ages, from schoolchildren taking their first steps into science to researchers using Jodrell Bank’s data to explore galaxies, black holes, star formation and the origins of the cosmos.

Your donation can help

By making a gift today, you can stand with the University and the Jodrell Bank community and protect this internationally significant scientific facility.

  • Help keep Jodrell Bank at the heart of UK radio astronomy.
  • Support a facility used by thousands of scientists and researchers.
  • Protect a much-loved landmark and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Inspire future generations of scientists, engineers and explorers.

Be part of Jodrell Bank’s next chapter

Jodrell Bank has given the world 80 years of discovery. With your support, its story does not have to end here.
